We are just about to wrap up a great year. Albeit a very challenging one. 2022 has brought us new adventures, new memories and lots of lessons learnt as we create a new way of working and being post-COVID.
If you speak to anyone, they will tell you it feels a lot more difficult to do or organise things that used to be simple. Anything from shopping to delivery, banking to travel, finding suppliers to processes and systems required feels a lot harder and more time consuming these days. Finding and keeping good staff feels near impossible. Add in the rise in general costs, and that people are stretched and less patient than in the past. Life is hard at the moment, so how do we manage it and move through life with ease and grace?
Imagine the power in seeing everything we are experiencing as great learning to take with us into 2023 and beyond. If we see everything as an opportunity for us to learn and remove the bias of it being good or bad, how much more powerful would that be?
Yet so many of us are worriers, and we take things so personally based on our own biases. Life moves quickly, and a lot of the time it may feel like we can barely keep up. Things sometimes don’t go our way, and we internalise those experiences and see them as negative.
The daily changes and sweeping calendars leave our heads buzzing with thoughts and feelings of concern on practically a minute-by-minute basis, especially as we race towards the end of the year. Sometimes it’s the small day-to-day things like, “Did I remember to lock the door before I left the house?” Other times, it’s a bit deeper than that, more along the lines of – “Am I losing myself in this busy world/busy time of year?”
Sometimes, we don’t even know what exactly we are worrying about. We just have become so addicted to worry, that every little thing can trigger our emotions. Every little thing becomes a problem, and every little thing becomes a threat.
Here’s the good news, once we become consciously aware of our feelings and behaviours, we have the power to move past them onto something greater. Once we become aware of the biases we bring to every view point, we can immediately change things around.
Call it the law of attraction, call it prayer, call it blind faith, call it psychology, call it whatever you want…it all boils down to two things: positivity and being able celebrate what has been done and to create something completely new with our future goals.
Be Positive, and be Grateful. Let’s thank 2022 for everything it brought us. When we remove judgement, we will know that every single interaction, every single experience and every single result was there to help us bridge the gap between where we are today and where we want to be tomorrow.
So here are 5 simple tips to farewell this year and start 2023 on a high:
Big or small, don’t stop writing until the alarm goes off. If you have a team do this exercise with them. Your pen should not leave the paper until the alarm goes off. You will pleasantly surprise yourself how many wins there have been.
Recognise those around you who have made these wins possible. Grattitude and celebration is the highest form of appreciation. Focusing on wins will beget more wins because where your attention goes, your energy flows.
Ask yourself/your team, what would I/we like to learn and achieve in 2023?
Ask - what will I/we Stop, Start, and Continue?
Set a simple accountability matrix and time frame.
Once you do this, you will be ready to end of 2022 on a positive note, and welcome 2023 with the right mindset. Such a simple yet powerful exercise that will invigorate you and your team. You will be thanking and celebrating 2022, and ready to welcome all new and unknown adventures of 2023, with a great big smile and an open mind.
